By adding sound designer Ben Gulvin to their roster of talent, post powerhouse No.8 have taken another giant leap forward in their provision to the ad industry and beyond.
|
Sound designer Ben Gulvin is the latest impressive signing for ambitious post house No.8, and his reunion with Sam Robson makes for a highly impressive sound team at the Soho outfit. Gulvin has a well-deserved reputation as one of the finest exponents of his craft, and, with two decades of experience under his belt, has the ability to nail every band brief.
|
Two recent examples of Gulvin's work offer a perfect illustration of his eclectic skills. In the first (above), he crafts real intimacy in the sad story of a little girl who doesn't realise there's nothing she can do to get what she most wants at Christmas. The sound element of this film is absolutely vital in helping director Max Weiland put her plight on the screen. |
In contrast, a fun 2025 French ad for Citroën (below) demonstrates Gulvin's ability to create a sense of the epic... which proves a vital element in the ad's crafty misdirection which leads to its excellent punchline. |
Sam Robson, who heads up the audio department at No.8 says of his former colleague and the company's latest acquisition: "It’s fantastic to have Ben G join us, his infectious personality and passion for creating great work are going to play a big part in the future of No.8. Having worked with him before, and knowing what a talent he is, it was only a matter of time before our paths would fortunately cross again." |
Gulvin himself says: "No.8 has fast become a stalwart for unquestionable quality in post-production excellence, I’m really excited to work with Sam again and the wider team here. I look forward to sitting in sessions with you all soon. Here’s to a successful future." |
He said it, and you know who to call. Or, if you don't... |
