Katarína Gramatová wanders into The Den.

The Den describe themselves as thrilled to be welcoming editor Katarína Gramatová into their midst and, after taking a look at some examples of her work, DAVID wholeheartedly backs their excitement.

Katarína Gramatová, who has just been added to the roster at The Den for representation in America, is an editor with an array of skills so manifest that it's easy to understand why her new US company describe themselves as "thrilled" to have her on board. Gramatová is fully immersed in the world of film, having recently directed her first feature film, as well building a fantastic body of work as an editor.

A graduate of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava where she specialised in editing, Katarína Gramatová's film education was holistic and, while there, she directed her debut short film, 'Cherries', which won a Special Jury Prize at the Zlin Film Festival.

This year will see the release of 'Promise, I’ll Be Fine' - her debut feature film as a director - which is a Slovak-Czech co-production funded by both countries' national film funds.

As might be expected, the films directed by Gramatová make great use of her skills in the editing suite, enhancing her ability to tell challenging stories in a playful manner, using drama and humour in equal measure.

That ability to playfully combine dramatic and comedic elements are just as tangible in Gramatová's editing work for other directors. In the featured ad for Oppo which she edited for director Jara Moravec, her skill is brought to the fore as she helps generate a dynamic rhythm that drives the action forward at an attention-grabbing pace until the action is slowed to amplify the intrigue.

Katarína has a remarkable talent for making every creative partnership feel seamless.

Moravec says of working with Gramatová: "What makes Katarína stand out from other editors is her instinct. She slices through the bullshit - whether it’s a phony performance or poor timing - with precision. It’s not often you find an editor who’s also a full-fledged director, having shot an acclaimed feature film before turning thirty."

There's a very different vibe in this second collaboration with Moravec - a promo for Elderbrook's track 'Why Do We Shake in the Cold?' which uses the fluidity of dance to express the introspective mood of the song. Once again, Gramatová's ability to tune into the director's vision has played a crucial part in its successful realisation.

Rachel Seitel, co-founder of The Den, says of her new signing: "Katarína has a remarkable talent for making every creative partnership feel seamless. She approaches her collaborations with thoughtfulness, actively listening, interpreting, and enhancing the director’s vision with clarity and care. We are incredibly proud to have her as part of our team, where her talent will undoubtedly inspire outstanding work."

For her part, Gramatová says of her new US base: "I’m beyond excited to join The Den. I admire all of my roster-mates, and I’m thrilled to be part of an editing house that has dedicated itself to creating the best stories possible with thoughtful storytelling. Everyone I’ve met at The Den has been wonderful, and I look forward to starting this next chapter of my career with them."
