Dear Friend secure WATTS for the Canadian market.

Canadian film production company are cock a hoop after securing the talents of directing duo WATTS for their roster.

LA-based directing duo Jenna and Tripp Watt, who operate as WATTS, have signed with Dear Friend in Canada and EP Mark Chisholm could hardly be more delighted: "WATTS are the kind of filmmakers you find yourself referencing before you realise it. Their work doesn't pull from what's already out there, it creates the language others end up chasing. Canada is ready for exactly what they do."

WATTS, who are represented by Stink in most markets, are across all manner of different visual styles incorporating stop motion and other forms of animation into projects as well as live action. Their skill with all of these film languages makes them an ideal choice for mixed media projects, but their mastery of each means they are one of the most versatile options out there.

This ad for Deliveroo out of Pablo in the UK is an excellent showcase of their ability to seamlessly combine live action and animation, and - in this case - their ability to draw it altogether through a perfect voiceover performance.

This charming film for American Express from 2024 illustrates how there doesn't need to be an animated element for WATTS's work to shine. It is a classic example of how a superb contribution from a director can elevate a script that, in other hands, could easily have led to a pedestrian outcome.

WATTS themselves say of their new Canadian home: "We liked Dear Friend instantly. They knew our work, came in with a plan, and have that slightly unhinged optimism about the future that we happen to share. The kind of people who are relentless in the best way. And since production is really just deciding who you want to lose your mind with in a hotel hallway at 3am this was an easy call."
