Five Star Work
(1-25 of 25)

TV2 Sumo
"Keep Streaming"
60s
18 Nov 2018
This beautifully shot ad for Finnish streaming service TV2 Sumo argues that good programming is an art form... literally. Evoking classical artwork through a painterly grade, the film shows people captivated by their favourite shows at pivotal life moments, transporting them to a different plane of existence. Artful work which shows a confident hand on the rudder.

Spectrum
"Diner"
30s
20 Nov 2018
Another amusing ad from US mobile network Spectrum demonstrates that monsters aren't just for Halloween. Much like their previous outing - which centred on a game of poker - the brand devote much of this film to bashing rivals T Mobile... in typical American fashion. There's an oddly sweet tone to the gang's interactions, as the Grim Reaper shows up in an unexpectedly floral number.

Dunnes Stores
"Shine a Light"
90s
20 Nov 2018
Dunnes Stores pump up the feel-good factor in this charming Christmas outing. Evoking some old-school Stranger Things vibes, the film sees a plucky group of children conspiring to ensure Santa can't miss their town on Christmas Eve. Snowstorms are no impediment to these youngsters, who gather up all the lights they can find whilst encouraging adults to run up their electricity bill.

Canal Digital
"Netflix"
70s
18 Nov 2018
Typical, eh? You're minding your own business on a city street when your friend runs up and says you're both currently starring in a commercial. Such an uncanny fate befalls a man called Björn in this meta escapade for Canal Digital and Netflix as he becomes embroiled in a ‘Narcos'-style raid. Blurred realities and tough justice combine well here.

McDonald's
"No Carrots"
90s
18 Nov 2018
Santa's reindeer suffer a fuel shortage in this well-rendered Christmas ad for McDonald's. While their corpulent master enjoys his annual fill of mince pies, Rudolph and co. haven't a carrot to share between them. In other words, it's mincemeat and no veg. Like 2017's pro-carrot offering, the fast food restaurant aim to warm the heart rather than clog it.

Waitrose
"Fast Forward"
40s
18 Nov 2018
John Lewis responded to this ad on Twitter with the words: "I thought we were Partners @waitrose?" which led to a conversation with Waitrose which ran and ran. Aside from demonstrating a proper understanding how brands can engage with the public using social media, it also draws attention to the 'cheeky' piece of advertising which prompted the exchange.

Vodafone
"Glide"
90s
16 Nov 2018
Vodafone channel ice skating biopic ‘I, Tonya' for their Christmas ad, as spokesman Martin Freeman experiences an uncharacteristic stroke of good fortune when his girlfriend orders a last-ditch present for the in-laws. And what better way to celebrate than with a triple Axel, eh? Having previously been stuck on a train with spoilerific commuters, the actor relishes his time on an empty ice rink... kind of.

Aldi
"Crash Landing"
90s
15 Nov 2018
Santa gets a helping hand in this charming Christmas ad for Aldi's Australian arm. When a sleigh crash ends his seasonal trip around the world a little earlier than expected, a tight-knit outback community take it upon themselves to get him back in the air. The action is nicely understated, as the townspeople pool their resources and accept St Nick as one of their own.

Just-Eat
"Squadron"
60s
15 Nov 2018
Donna Summer's ‘Hot Stuff' provides the apt soundtrack to this 60" Just-Eat commercial, which sees the company's airborne delivery drivers descend on the nation's hungry, sofabound masses. Riffing on pilots' radio chatter and unreliable moped engines, agency Karmarama and director Jeff Low offer a, er, heightened spin on the UK's fast food obsession.

John Lewis
"Elton's Piano"
2 mins 20s
15 Nov 2018
The rumours around Elton John's involvement in this year's John Lewis Christmas ad were true then. The 71 year old superstar has lent his voice and his gravitas to the advertising's biggest event as it edges away from its well-established template into a slightly different shape. The film uses a Time's Arrow approach to Elton John's life, opening with a reflective moment on the piano and a glance through his stellar career.

KFC
"Showdown"
60s
13 Nov 2018
The season of goodwill may be upon us, but KFC are in a fighting mood if this 60" outing is anything to go by. Scored by Ennio Morricone's ‘The Ecstasy of Gold' from ‘The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly', the ad depicts one of nature's, erm, fiercest rivalries: chicken versus turkey. A tongue-in-cheek reminder that the chain are only interested in one bird.

Cadbury
"Secret Santa"
60s
13 Nov 2018
Discretion is paramount in this charming Cadbury ad, which sees a cadre of Secret Santas avoid detection through precision, good timing, and - most importantly - a paper Santa mask. As Mathilda Homer's cover of ‘Do You Want to Know a Secret' wafts in the background, Secret Santas young and old surreptitiously place their confections before beating a hasty retreat.

VW Vans
"Check-Up"
30s
12 Nov 2018
At last week's Ciclope Festival in Berlin, Richard Brim spoke about the value of a WTF? moment in advertising. This film for VW's vans out of Brim's agency adam&eveDDB has a really powerful WTF? moment. Wherever you think this might be leading as a mechanic runs through a checklist of what's what, not many of you will anticipate that the van's owner is so impressed by this exhibition of thoroughness that he's going to expose his nether regions for a similarly rigorous examination.

Boots
"Gifts That Get Them"
90s
8 Nov 2018
This year's Christmas offering from Boots focuses solely on one family - a household comprising just a mum and her daughter. We witness the usual scenes of tension between the generations - mum putting her foot down; daughter embarrassed at mum's sniffling through a weepy movie - but all that changes when the teen gets an opportunity to see her mother as a person in her own right.

Sainsbury's
"The Big Night"
2 mins
11 Nov 2018
Sainsbury's get into the real spirit of Christmas with this joyful ad focused on a seasonal mainstay - the Christmas play. Far from shepherds with tea towels on their heads and conspicuously home made costumes, however, this is a show with some serious pizzazz. While some commenters have noted similarities between this and another recent film about precocious performers, this has a charm all of its own.

Levi's
"Use Your Vote"
90s
11 Nov 2018
This excellent film by Benito Montorio for Levi's - an extended version of an ad we featured earlier in the year - beautifully encapsulates the importance of voting. Although it's international in its scope and doesn't explicitly take aim at the US electorate, there can be little doubt that this is a clarion call to responsible voters over there. And, by 'responsible', we do of course mean voters who are prepared to place their X wherever it will do the most damage to the demagogue in the White House.

Aldi
"Kevin and the Wicked Parsnip"
60s
9 Nov 2018
Kevin the Carrot's Liam Neeson-esque transformation into certified action hero continues with part two of Aldi's Christmas campaign. Having previously diced with death on a cliff edge, the anthropomorphic vegetable must now rescue his family from a dastardly parsnip. As we have come to expect from the little CG carrot that could, the action is peppered with foodie visual gags and the odd double entendre for the adults.

Heathrow Airport
"Homecoming"
1 min 35s
9 Nov 2018
Heathrow's teddy bear couple return for another touching holiday commercial in 2018. This year, their retirement in the sunny Florida Quays is interrupted by a sudden, seasonal stab of homesickness. Directing duo DOM&NIC return to bring their distinctive emotional sensibility to this campaign, mixing moments of comedy and poignant reminders of home.

Waitrose
"Concert"
30s
9 Nov 2018
Waitrose (or Waitrose & Partners, if you're not into the whole brevity thing) believe nothing should get in the way of a mince pie this Christmas… not even a community choir rendition of ‘Jingle Bells'. Eager to get their chops around the supermarket's chocolate and sour cherry offerings, the choir and their pianist deliver an accelerated version of the festive staple.

Waitrose
"Mistletoe"
30s
9 Nov 2018
Love is in the air in this latest 30" Waitrose commercial… although so is the smell of turkey. As a couple gather under the mistletoe, a Christmas snog to remember seems inevitable - only for the woman to decide that Christmas dinner is her true love. Well, the heart wants what it wants... and, erm, so does the stomach.

Unity
"Mesut Ozil and Mathieu Flamini"
78s
6 Nov 2018
Now is a good time to launch an eco-friendly brand. After all, Collins Dictionary has named ‘single-use' as 2018's word of the year (following in the illustrious footsteps of ‘Brexit' and ‘fake news'). The latest environment-savvy outfit to hit the market are skincare pedlars Unity, and this rousing launch ad comes with Premier League approval.

T K Maxx
"The Neverending Stocking"
90s
7 Nov 2018
TK Maxx get into the Christmas spirit with this whimsical commercial for the holiday season. While hunting for the perfect gift at her local upscale jumble sale, a woman comes across a stocking with rather unusual properties. The magical concept is nicely executed by director Nick Ball, who injects plenty of humour to the situation as a bottomless sock belches out presents not just over Christmas, but all year round.

White Ribbon
"If Love Hurts"
2 mins 12s
7 Nov 2018
Domestic abuse charity White Ribbon mark this year's International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women with a heightened depiction of an abusive relationship. When a man kisses and fondles his girlfriend, he leaves behind a raft of bruises and lesions instead - and the pain only gets worse from there.

Tesco
"However You Do Christmas"
60s
6 Nov 2018
Tesco were obviously very pleased with the commercial BBH made for them last year... so much so that they've essentially asked them to make it for them again. We're all familiar with the expression 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' but too often we treat that idea as anathema in the advertising business where there's often an insistence on progress for progress's sake.

Samsung Galaxy
"Victory Dance"
55s
5 Nov 2018
There was a time when an actor's must-have attributes included ‘skilled at accents' and ‘can ride a horse'. Nowadays seemingly every performer worth their salt must pull off a thoroughly modern feat: flossing. The hip-defying dance has achieved particular notoriety as one of online shooter Fortnite's myriad victory celebrations, and this 55" Samsung commercial aims to give as many of them an airing as possible.
