UK TV Stations

E4 attempt to combat colds with their Wednesday night movies in this entertaining ad. It's a nicely constructed parody of typical cold medicine ad tropes, including graphics pointing out highlighted areas of pain and mention of 'soothing action' and 'powerful relief' in the script. We particularly like their cuddlier version of the MGM lion at the start.

E4's latest Gogglebox spin-off is off to a scary start in this ad. Vlogglebox - which eschews broadcast TV in favour of viral online clips - is shot free range, with participants watching in the kitchen, at the park, and even on the bus. The two women at the end are the highlight of the montage, particularly the one nonchalantly snacking through her suspense.

We’ve had Gogglebox, Celebrity Gogglebox, and even Gogglesprogs; now E4 launch their own spin-off geared towards the streaming generation. Instead of telly programmes, the Vlogglebox cast will commentate on web-based content like memes and bite-sized videos. This restless trail confirms that public transport and takeaway counters replace comfy sofas.

"Spa"

E4 believes everyone deserves to unwind, and that they're the ideal place to do so. This tongue-in-cheek ad introduces us to the E4 spa - a refuge from angry mobs, comment sections, and, erm, shrinking chocolate. The fun script conveys the channel's carefree remit well: quacks nationwide will be wishing they'd come up with "colonic irrigation for your mindholes" first.

"Celebs Go Dating II"

31 Jan 2017
This entertaining trail for Celebs Go Dating reminds us that true love can be hard to find... even for the rich and semi-famous. The likes of Hollyoaks star Jorgie Porter, dancer Perri Kiely, and Joey Essex (returning for a second series) encounter various obstacles in their quest for that special someone. Lovely end gag involving premature cork poppage.

Joey Essex provides us with an early "wallop!" in this trail for E4's Celebs Go Dating. The TOWIE alum along with the likes of Charlotte Crosby and Tyger Drew-Honey (we're sure someone out there can name the entire roster) are all looking for a little romance and the medium of television is conveniently the best means of finding it. It's easy to lose track of the number of televised dating shows, but this variation should attract the reality TV crowd.

Having been tasked with ensuring E4 remained off the air on election day last year, purple-shirted Darren returns to big up the channel's roster of shows with an amusingly off-key ditty. Cleverly inserting Darren into clips from E4's most popular programmes including The Big Bang Theory and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the ad conveys the station's irreverent 'slacker' attitude in entertaining fashion.

In a bold move, E4 are switching off on May 7th in a bid to persuade youngsters to go to the polling booth instead and this lovely film drawing attention to this pro-democracy initiative features a young man who epitomises the apathy they're trying to discourage. It'll be a futile gesture if E4's normal audience hasn't registered but it's a great publicity stunt and we applaud it.

Stuck for something to watch? Not if you switch to E4. According to this highly entertaining spot, the channel can cater for all your comedy and drama needs - along with your desire to view slow motion action, normal-paced action, spoons and looking sideways. It's a clever, funny way to make it sound like E4 is offering more than it actually is - by entertaining you, you don't notice that they're programming is quite limited.

An amusing trail for E4's 'Girls Night In' in which it's explained how men too can enjoy the televisual treats provided they are up for a bit of cross-dressing. Great care has been taken to give this an authentically kitsch feel which is a perfect fit for the TV station's image.

"Sunday Ruddy Sunday"

Typically irreverent trail for Sunday nights on E4 boasts of a strong imported lineup with the usual tongue in cheek tomfoolery. A man in his underwear dives into his television set before donning a purple jacket and flying across our screens.

Two for the price of one here. Not only do we hear that E4 has "nicked Big Brother" from Channel 4... we are also given an exclusive look at the trail for the new series of Skins. A very strong attempt by Channel 4 to migrate viewers over to one of its subsidiary channels.

"Udderbelly"

19 Jul 2007
Marvellous comic book spoof showing how the Udderbelly... the comedy venue at Edinburgh's Fringe Festival sponsored by E4... has come to the rescue of comedy fans at risk of having their brains eroded by the old-fashioned comedy of mother-in-law jokes.

E4
"Matchbox"
15s
14 Jan 2007
Typically mischievous and surreal ident for E4 shows a matchbox with matches sticking out strategically to make it look like a dog. The little critter enthusiastically wags his tail and scratches at the ground with the unfortunate consequence of setting himself alight.

E4
"Home Shopping"

13 Dec 2006
Typically strange offering from E4 to promote their channel has what appears to be an oriental home shopping channel with a slightly bewildered occidental man watching on as the two hosts extol the virtues of tea served in a typically English fashion, before then saying something about E4 music.

E4
"Sopranos"

21 Aug 2006
To herald the advent of a new series of The Sopranos, the clever boys and girls of E4 have put together a splendid spoof of the show's famous opening sequence that sees Tony making his way past various NYC/NJ landmarks which are replaced here by recognisably English alternatives.

"Giant Purple Cow"

Very amusing piece has Russell Brand saving the day when a giant purple cow starts terrorising the people of Edinburgh. This does offer an explanation of sorts to residents of Scotland's capital who are wondering quite how it is that one of this year's Festival venues resembles a prone purple cow.

According to this ad, E4 invented music on television in 1886 but after the announcement in a Victorian music hall went badly they just didn't tell anyone about it until now. Another quirky film for Channel 4's irresponsible younger brother.
