Tesco Mobile
"Ring My Bell"
30s
12 September 2017
UK Mobile Phone Networks

Where would advertisers be without cat videos, eh? This Tesco Mobile commercial features two moggies equipped with desk bells - each time they ring, they receive a tasty treat. “Clever girls”, observes the VO à la ‘Jurassic Park’. Whether they’re savvy enough to pursue the network’s data plan remains to be seen.

Tesco Mobile
"Family Drama"
50s
27 Apr 2017
This is an extended version of the Tesco Mobile ad we brought you back in March. The 50" cut includes a handful more mishaps, including a loo roll shortage and a, erm, roadside emergency. Both fit seamlessly into an already entertaining sequence - one which suggests the carrier's flexible mobile plan can ease any familial embarrassment.

Tesco Mobile
"Family Perks"
40s
27 Mar 2017
Tesco Mobile follow last year's entertaining montage of holiday foibles with these minor domestic calamities. Dick van Dyke's 'Put on a Happy Face' accompanies such incidents as a blender eruption, a Lego demolition job, and a bedroom sight that cannot be unseen. Thanks to a bright script, the carrier makes a chirpy bid to become part of the family.

Tesco Mobile
"Stress Free"
40s
1 Nov 2016
Tesco Mobile give us a stress-free moment in a hectic world with this simple ad featuring a picture of adorable kittens and some soft purring sounds. The squeaky little miaows may have caused the resident office cat to freak out slightly here at DAVID, but we're sure the feline soundtrack and soothing Irish voiceover have the desired effect on human viewers.

Tesco Mobile
"Knickers"
30s
25 Jul 2016
One of two excellent ads for Tesco Mobile about the dilemmas of modern life. In this execution, a mum discovers some frilly knickers in her son's bedroom and runs the gamut of emotions from outrage to acceptance to confusion as a whole other range of possibilities reveal themselves to her. Again, a terrific juxtaposition between the physical stillness of the performance and the wired skittering of the VO.

Tesco Mobile
"Friend Request"
30s
25 Jul 2016
The lovely performance from the young woman in this Tesco Mobile ad - coupled with the quirky voiceover - makes this an absolutely cracking ad. From the brief thrill of getting a 'friend request' alert on her phone to the horrified discovery it's from her draconian boss, her face registers a range of emotions communicated with economy and wit. Life's complicated, we're told; thank goodness choosing the right network isn't.

Tesco Mobile
"Smile"

23 Jun 2016
Oh, the irony! It's just as well this commercial includes the words "this summer" when boasting about the uniform price across Europe available with Tesco Mobile because the decision taken overnight in the UK will ultimately mean a renegotiation on relatively trivial matters such as this as well as on the more important aspects of our relationship with the civilised countries of the EU.

Tesco Mobile
"Wake Up Call"
40s
11 May 2015
The perky protagonist of this engaging jaunt seeks to raise the nation from their telecommunications slumber and trumpet the benefits of Tesco Mobile's services. There are some nice touches nestled throughout - who'd have thought roosters could operate smartphones? - and the locations featured effectively demonstrate the coverage the operator aims to provide.

Tesco Mobile
"Flick The Switch"
30s
27 Apr 2015
This sweet ad for Tesco Mobile out of Ireland has a young girl describing how each member of the family has had a treat when they've saved money by rationalising their utility suppliers. Now that it's her turn, she decides she wants a pony... well, she does until she realises that it might not be entirely practical.

Tesco Mobile
"Dry Ice"
20s
23 Feb 2015
This is a rather fun way to get a message onscreen and keep it there without people losing interest. After the musical fanfare and the epic VO booming out about capped prices and so forth, we're left with a phone number and a web address that's on long enough for people to make a note of - while wondering if the ad should have gone off air.

Tesco Mobile
"Violin"
30s
13 Sep 2014
This Irish commercial for Tesco Mobile finds a new angle on the 'get more than you expect' proposition by showing a boy tentatively sliding the bow across his violin before turning in a rock star style performance of considerable virtuosity. Mum is then forcibly crowd-surfed to share her son's moment of glory. Silly and fun.

Tesco Mobile
"Tap-Dancing Flea"
30s
1 Sep 2014
Here, a tap-dancing flea called Ricardo is the star of the show. His act fills the time left over once the presenter has explained how simple it is to upgrade your phone when you have a Tesco Mobile contract. Carefully the presenter puts on a miniature record and Ricardo steps out into the glare of the tiny spotlights and taps his way to fame. Or does he?

Tesco Mobile
"Rock Parrot"
30s
1 Sep 2014
One of three new commercials for Tesco Mobile which centre on the idea that their proposition is so straightforwardly compelling, they've time for a little bit of nonsense to entertain us. In this spot it's Popka, the Rock Parrot, who renders "Who's A Pretty Boy" into some kind of thrash metal scream accompanied by a teen DJ.

Tesco Mobile
"Cherry Helmet"
30s
1 Sep 2014
One of three new commercials for Tesco Mobile which centre on the idea that their proposition is so straightforwardly compelling, they've time for a little bit of nonsense to entertain us. In this case, a man wearing a cherry helmet jumps into a giant pudding before having the aforementioned headwear lit using a giant match.

Tesco Mobile
"Haircut"
30s
3 Jun 2014
Um... this doesn't really work, does it? If she'd found herself in a men's barbers being approached by a stereotype with clippers... maybe. If she'd found herself in a salon being approached by a nervous trainee... maybe? But how is Joe Public supposed to think that this representation is a threat to good styling - we don't all get our hair cut in fancy dan Soho boutiques, you know? For a lot of people, this is normal life.

Tesco Mobile
"Teapot"
30s
25 Mar 2014
It's not a new premise, but Tesco Mobile are making it their own in this campaign where something you don't have high hopes for turns out to be better than you expected. In this particular spot, a nervous young man meeting his girlfriend's parents for the first time is terrified he'll let himself down when asked to act as mother chaperoning a "swollen pug" of a teapot.

Tesco Mobile
"Shower"
30s
24 Mar 2014
A woman turns on a hotel shower with trepidation: will it be a trickle or a blast of freezing needles? She's not expecting great things. But huzzah! A hot, life-affirming jet of water arrives and her fears vanish into the steam. This is Tesco's analogy for their mobile offering: you should get more than you expect, which is why they provide 4G at no extra cost. Lovely work from the VO - and it sounds like Nick Frost to us.

Tesco Mobile
"Parents' Race"
30s
5 Sep 2013
A busy mum literally conducts the people in her life in this Irish ad for Tesco Mobile. Her burden will be eased if she's on the advertised network because they are "in tune" with her world. If Tesco really are 'in tune', they'll be one step ahead of the choir of needy folk facing this woman - their deliberately horrible soundtrack would be enough to drive you to heroin, never mind Tesco Mobile.

Tesco Mobile
"Gina Yashere"
30s
16 Jun 2013
Another clunker in the Tesco Mobile campaign. As well as overcomplicating the 'not funny' proposition, the scenarios are implausible too: in this instance, would dad really just announce his new phone deal in the car without having discussed it with his missus first, and would her reaction be to laugh rather than ask: "And you didn't tell me before because...?"

Tesco Mobile
"Sauna"
30s
16 Jun 2013
Ronie Corbett turns up in this distinctly stilted ad. The line: "There's nothing funny about Tesco mobile phones" has been so overworked it's disappeared up its own network provider. Showing comedians being unfunny doesn't underline the idea that Tesco is a serious player, it underlines the idea that being unfunny is just - well, embarrassing.

Tesco Mobile
"Ed Byrne"
30s
11 Jun 2013
This is almost as awkward as the Santander ads featuring sports personalities offering financial advice to surprised or'nary folk. Ed Byrne woodenly tells two women in a stationery cupboard that Tesco's mobile phone deals aren't funny as they stare at him aghast. Having a Tesco mobile phone is the modern equivalent of wearing BHS own-label trainers but is this head-on approach likely to help with this image problem?

Tesco Mobile
"Be The Same"
30s
27 Aug 2012
Another of Tesco Mobile's splendid spoofs of its rivals' pretentious commercials. Previous executions have been full on parodies but this one works differently - a weary voiceover reveals that the company wishes it could urge us to all be different but that's not really the Tesco way.

Tesco Mobile
"Cup Cake"
30s
22 May 2012
Animation is used to show a cup cake being smothered with cream and decorations to illustrate the enhancements available if you use Tesco Mobile for Pay As You Go. Presumably, the basic looking style is designed to emphasise the idea that blue supermarket's mobile offering is the cheapest available. We can't help feeling that Tesco would gain sales if its mobile service was called something else.

Tesco Mobile
"Cap Their Spend"
30s
10 Oct 2011
Another helping of spoofery on behalf of Tesco's mobile phone division has youngsters boasting of the freedom provided by their phone before a dad extols the virtue of being able to limit their activity via a capped contract. A winning proposition for any parent.

Tesco Mobile
"Triple Your Credit"
30s
9 May 2011
Another helping of parody to promote the idea that blue supermarket's mobile phone offering allows you to cut through all the crap spouted by the main providers. Most of the content of this has appeared in earlier ads but the bit at the end is new and it's a good campaign so we thought we'd let you take a look at it.
