This stylish commercial for Nike Russia has a woman running through the city encountering strange images - a pair of Shining-esque twins with liquid heads, a colour-changing snake, a flaming bicycle - before finally coming face to face with her own doppelganger. An eye-catching, pastel-tinged film which is sure to grab attention.

This 40” film sees Nike and director Ben Strebel take us on a breakneck tour of Moscow. One Muscovite’s impressive energy reserves take him from city parks to underground raves. Meanwhile, gnarly flourishes have the protagonist baring his teeth like an animal. Restless and in-your-face, the ad appeals to a specific breed of urban speed demon.

From Gary Player to modern players like Charl Schwartzel and Louis Oosthuizen, South Africa’s golfing lineage is impressive. Here, Nike give a platform to the next generation… and there’s not a green in sight. Nothing stops these golfers getting into the swing of things. Every surface becomes a tee, an imaginary flag added to every vista. Improvisation and exploration are encouraged and the sport’s officious tendencies are hit long.

Fans of BBC Three's People Just Do Nothing will be pleased to learn Kurupt FM have branched into a new industry: home shopping. Chabuddy G (Asim Chaudhry) puts his questionable entrepreneurial skills to the test as he and the gang showcase Nike's golden Air Max 97 trainers. A touch too long, but there's enough bling and awkward chatter to keep us onside.

Zara Larsson invites us to kiss her Airs - Nike Airs, that is. The Swedish popster provides both the moves and the soundtrack for these quickfire ads. Larsson’s energetic dance routines are accompanied by some glistening visual flourishes - they are Jewells, after all. The brand will be hoping chart success translates to footwear sales.

You can tell Harry Kane is enjoying his new Nike Hypervenom boots... shame, then, that the Tottenham striker is currently nursing an ankle injury. While Spurs and England fans would rather see him back on the pitch, this colourful ad fizzes with energy as Kane summons the elements in training. Premier League defences will welcome the respite from the storm.

"What Are Girls Made Of?"

13 Mar 2017
“Oh, what, oh what, oh what are our girls made of?” sings the precocious star of Nike’s latest film marking International Women’s Day. Flowers, rings, gossip, and, erm, marmalade make them in Russia, apparently. This earns the audience’s approval… but she’s ready to sing from a different hymn sheet with a little help from unexpected quarters.

This film is one of three Nike spots commissioned for International Women's Day, each focused on a different part of the world. Here we take a look at Turkey and the stereotypes Turkish women come up against in their day-to-day lives. Beyoncé's feminist anthem 'Run The World' is an appropriate choice of soundtrack to accompany the powerful visuals - it certainly gets the blood pumping.

Nike leap aboard the International Women's Day bandwagon with typical sure-footedness with this film focusing on female athletes in the Middle East. It's one of three made specially to mark the event and - for our money - the most significant as, unlike the other two, it was directed by a woman. It is, nonetheless, very typical of the Nike oeuvre.

14 Feb 2017
Having recently scooped a Grammy for Beyoncé’s politically-charged ‘Formation’ promo, director Melina Matsoukas tackles equality in this stirring Nike film. To mark Black History Month, Michael B. Jordan asks: “Is this the land history promised?” Despite the wintry aesthetic, the ad has fire in the belly.

This short film for Nike was conceived, created, and directed by avant-garde creative powerhouse and musician FKA Twigs. The grungy-beautiful two minute spot advertises Nike's new Spring Zonal Strength Tights, which are shown off to great effect by athletic dance moves from the likes of Olympic fencer Miles Chamley-Watson and krump dancer Saskia Horton.

Well, you won’t see this on the regular NBA fixture list; it’s Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers versus Questlove of, erm, The Tonight Show. While Roots drummer Questlove lays down a free-form beat, Irving responds with his own quicksilver moves. Anything you can do, I can do better. A slick tribute to sporting and musical prowess from Nike and the Hoffman Brothers.

Nike save us the trouble of watching The Walking Dead (still haven't forgiven you for Glenn, Scott Gimple) and summarise pretty much every zombie movie ever to create more time to run. Although the existence of certain apps suggests the two can be combined quite effectively... if being chased by hordes of the undead is your idea of a good time.

Nike break down the foibles of social media in another entertaining ad. According to the Siri-like voice, forty-five minutes on Facebook amounts to hundreds of baby photos, needy narwhals, and notifications that “someone you don’t remember likes something”. In other words, why not do something more meaningful with your time... like exercise?

Nike
"Time is Precious"
60s
12 Dec 2016
This punchy campaign sees Nike dispense with the big names and dynamic visuals in favour of a minimalist approach. The sportswear giant charts modern life by the numbers with a Siri-esque voiceover before reminding us just how much screen time we indulge in. Unsurprisingly, flicking left (and occasionally right) on a dating app isn’t the brand’s idea of exercise.

A neon gymnasium pulses in the darkness as an assortment of fitness fiends push themselves to the limit in this impressive Nike film. As the synth-heavy score gathers momentum, the group appears on the verge of keeling over - but somehow rally to take this exercise session into overtime with an accompanying assault of colour and light.

Nike explores the reasons why we do sport in this multi-disciplinary spectacle from Wieden + Kennedy (Shanghai) and Stink's Martin Krejci. According to the global giant, their near thirty-year-old mantra of 'Just Do It' still holds sway in 2016. The script is anchored by various declarations of personal choice, reminding athletes of all shapes, sizes, and sports that actions speak loudest when you simply act.

This Nike campaign continues to go from strength to strength with this demonstration of raw power courtesy of Serena Williams and Major League Baseball star Giancarlo Stanton. The pair's cross-court and cross-sport rally gets the viewer's pulse racing and Oscar Isaac's enjoyably frantic VO in a tizz, but he's soon in an apologetic mood for questioning this training session.

Nike once again flummox Oscar Isaac in the voiceover booth - this time by introducing Sister Madonna Buder a.k.a. the 'Iron Nun'. No, don't worry, she isn't the latest addition to cinema's ever-increasing roster of superheroes - eighty-six-year-old Buder is a triathlete with a spry attitude to the whole mind, body, and soul business. Another engaging distillation of the sporting brand's universal message of boundless endeavour.

Nike follow their terrific Olympic campaign opener with a 30" ad following Team USA's Chris Mosier - the first transgender athlete to qualify for the men's national team, and the first transgender athlete to star in an ad for the sportswear giant. Not that Mosier has much time to spare to reflect on the matter.

When they hit their stride, there are few advertisers who can match Nike and they've pulled something really special out of the locker to launch their Olympics campaign. The first minute or so is pretty great but it pales into insignificance compared with what follows... and it's all held together by a spectacularly brilliant voiceover performance from Oscar Isaac.

Vinyl's Bobby Cannavale has recovered quickly from the HBO show's cancellation and taken on the role of motivational speaker in this fun Nike ad set in a starry nursery. Giving the babified versions of Neymar, Serena Williams, and LeBron James a pep talk that will with any luck stay with them long after feeding time, Cannavale instils the Nike ethos from as early an age as possible - regardless of origin. A quirky piece of work that slots in just below Nike's top-tier output.

Director François Rousselet has put together a truly sparkling collection of vignettes demanding that women be seen as equals. It forms part of a message - growing in volume all the time - which is directly challenging old-fashioned patriarchal attitudes with a vigour that cannot be suppressed.

12 Jul 2016
While the notion of 'unlimited Serena Williams' must send a chill down the spines of her opponents, this typically steely Nike commercial taps into the tennis great's early struggles as an underdog. Twenty-two Grand Slams and counting would suggest Williams has this self-doubt under control, but the player admits this 'never back down' mentality is what keeps her at the top of the pile as thirty years of relentless training begins to take its toll.

Nike enlist the expertise of skateboarder Stefan Janoski for this arresting film which turns the streets of Austin, Texas into a skatepark of limitless possibilities. Janoski sees trick potential where others would only see concrete and steel. Like a man whose endless rewatchings of 'Inception' paid off, he's able to exert uncanny control over every fixture, fitting, and feature he comes across - even shadows become the ideal grinding surface.
