FurKids
"Kitty Kommercial"
2 mins 58s
11 January 2017
Internet Charities

This ad for the FurKids no-kill animal shelter has gone viral after being posted anonymously on Reddit. It's racked up over four million views on YouTube, despite featuring no actual actors and being shot in around half an hour.

While it calls to mind other spoof shelter ads (such as the memorable Calgary Humane Society film that went viral in 2015 for selling cats like used cars... is this becoming a sub-genre?), this feels more authentic because of the low (no) budget and the fact it can't decide what kind of commercial it wants to spoof... so it does them all.

There's the car salesman pitch, black and white infomercial shots, a South Park joke (I need about three kitty!), mispronouncing common words, and even a spoof of heartstring-tugging PSAs complete with terrible background music. Plus a script which features gems like 'we've got the blackest cats you've ever seen - it's like midnight inside a coffin over here!'

McDonald's annual Monopoly ad returns - this time with a scientific twist. While the pair of researchers here aren't exactly Indiana Jones, they react with appropriate excitement when they stumble upon a pristine artefact they've been searching for. As they rush to preserve the precious parchment, however, disaster strikes...

VW
"Gesture"
40s
21 Mar 2017
Iggy Pop's 'The Passenger' became synonymous with car ads thanks to a 1998 Toyota Avensis commercial; now it's VW's turn to hit play. The German marque places great importance on gestures in this Golf ad... though motorists seeking compensation over the emissions scandal will be expecting something more on the lines of a generous gesture of goodwill.

Specsavers
"Dishes"
30s
21 Mar 2017
Specsavers's long-running campaign has rarely focused on children's glasses, so this latest entry is a welcome diversion. While a music aficionado (the wonderful Cavan Clerkin) tends to his collection, his son is busy washing the dishes. Alas, no matter how hard you scrub, some plates just won't come clean. In this case, there's a sound explanation....

Emirates
"Electronic Devices"
20s
22 Mar 2017
Emirates have released a topical extract from their recent ad starring Jennifer Aniston. The airlline is making the best of a recent ban on electronics being carried on flights from nine countries, cheekily pointing out they've got so much in-flight entertainment available that nothing extra is required to keep boredom at bay. No word as to whether their TVs have Candy Crush though...

Rail Delivery Group
"Improvements"
40s
20 Mar 2017
We're not particularly keen on the phrase "post-truth era" at DAVID, suggesting - as it does - that lying in public is a new idea but it's tempting to use it to describe this extraordinary piece of propaganda on behalf of Britain's train network. The ad itself is well made but you cannot overlook its complete failure to acknowledge the problems generated by a creaking infrastructure and the dysfunctional relationship between train companies and trade unions.

Eastenders
"Brace Yourself"
40s
22 Mar 2017
This atmospheric trailer from BBC Creative gives us glimpses of explosive scenes to come in Albert Square. A secret affair between a teacher and student is revealed by a slow-motion kiss in the rain, but the shocked reactions from other characters suggest there won't be anything romantic about the fall-out. Martin even stops eating his fish and chips at the sight - brace yourself indeed.

HSBC
"The Journey"
60s
22 Mar 2017
Willie Nelson's 'On the Road Again' scores this charming ad promoting the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. A rugby ball crosses all manner of terrain in order to reach the players' tunnel before kick-off. It's a neat way of reflecting the tournament's international reach, and Outsider's Jim Gilchrist ensures a bouncy treatment. Lovely ball work, too.

Nike
"Hurri-Kane"
30s
22 Mar 2017
You can tell Harry Kane is enjoying his new Nike Hypervenom boots... shame, then, that the Tottenham striker is currently nursing an ankle injury. While Spurs and England fans would rather see him back on the pitch, this colourful ad fizzes with energy as Kane summons the elements in training. Premier League defences will welcome the respite from the storm.

J D Williams
"Spring into Summer"
30s
17 Mar 2017
JD Williams has been brought into the 21st century. What was a fusty old brand aimed at women presumed to be past all that fashion nonsense has been transformed over the course of several ads. Not only does this latest have a distinct look all of its own, it comes with a music track that gives it extra clout and credibility.

Rightmove
"School Checker"
30s
21 Mar 2017
Rightmove's new School Checker feature allows parents to scope out their sprog's educational prospects before they decide to move house. It's tricky to sell kids talking about catchment areas and OFSTED, but this bright film just about pulls it off. Great if you're selling in the right school location; not so great if you aren't.

Dispatches
"Secrets of Coca-Cola"
20s
20 Mar 2017
With its cheery burst of Justin Timberlake's 'Can't Stop The Feeling' (not a million miles away from a certain campaign slogan) and distinctive red-and white animation, this ad for Dispatches' investigation into Coke captures the essence of one of the most visible brands on earth.

Domino's Pizza
"Home for Pizza"
1 min 42s
20 Mar 2017
Having starred in ‘Stranger Things,’ Joe Keery should feel at home in Eighties throwbacks. Now the tousled heartthrob takes the lead in this lovely homage to 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' from Domino's. Keery navigates backyards and trampolines in a race home. He's not trying to evade parents or thwart a vengeful sister, though... the man's got pizza on the way.

Milka
"Egg Hunt"
90s
17 Mar 2017
This ad for Milka chocolate has a touch of the Hunger Games about it, as children compete to gather the most Easter eggs by any means necessary (including one particularly creative girl who attacks her rival with bees). Disaster strikes when a chocolate bunny falls out of reach, and the youngsters work together to find a whimsical solution - with some unexpected help from a spiky friend.

iZettle
"Football"
50s
17 Mar 2017
iZettle have released a series of ads - created by Round & Round and directed by Lukas Hammar - focused on, uh, 'true' historical moments when people refused to take no for an answer. It's all part of their 'Do Your Thing' campaign, which champions the bravery of small businesses. This film shows the birth of the beautiful game... sort of.

Compare The Market
"Tail"

Poor Sergei. The venerable meerkat once again falls victim to Aleksandr's rapier wit during a two-for-one cinema jolly. This time, the whiskered duo is watching the live-action remake of 'Beauty and the Beast'... and Aleksandr can never resist a good pun. One can only imagine would life would've been like had Sergei picked Nicole Kidman instead.

Quorn
"Spag Bol"
20s
20 Mar 2017
With this spot, Quorn have significantly changed their approach to conquering the meat-free market. Gone are athletes endorsing the benefits of protein... instead the brand has charged director Richard Jung - master of delectable food ads - with making Quorn seem tasty rather than virtuous. A convinced VO from Alan Davies is the perfect accompaniment.

Co-op Supermarkets
"Mother's Day"
90s
20 Mar 2017
The Co-op aren’t shy about embracing the past. Since reviving their 1960s logo last year, the supermarket have emphasised traditional values and community spirit - the kind of things you see immortalised in grainy film footage. Such thinking inspires this affectionate Mother’s Day ad as a woman treats mum and the whole family to a filmic trip down memory lane.

Boots
"Mother's Day"
30s
17 Mar 2017
Boots eschew the usual cards and flowers in favour of pampering a mum who spends most of the time getting her hands dirty mucking out cows. It's a smart move to put the kids front and centre in this documentary-style film, especially when one tyke declares his mum can now have 'a good old scrub' and get 'shiny'.

Sainsbury's
"Red Noses"

17 Mar 2017
Those who crave variety in their novelty schnozzes are in for a treat this Red Nose Day. To celebrate the biennial charity drive, shoppers can nab one of ten characterful noses from Sainsbury's. Meanwhile, rapper MysDiggi makes a brief cameo as he wonders where his own red nose has gone - always in the last place you look, eh?

Berocca aim to energise the nation with this entertaining ad for their fizzy yellow vitamin tablets. Far from being just a hangover cure, the brand want you to know that the drink can give you bags of energy and all the get-up and go you need. Roccy the chameleon embodies this vitamin-fuelled nugget of joie de vivre as he struts his stuff deep in the jungle.

Raymond James
"Doors"
60s
17 Mar 2017
In this US ad for Raymond James, a couple's life is depicted via copious opening doors. The motif may be familiar, but each vignette conveys the passing time well. The advertised institution pays tribute to those who've toiled and achieved together, and suggests their financial expertise can help them embrace even more opportunities in later life.

Raymond James
"Kevin"

17 Mar 2017
As Dylan Moran once observed, everyone wants to hear their name said a certain way. This engaging commercial for wealth management firm Raymond James introduces us to Kevin - a name comprised of two syllables and many inflections.

Swedish Railways
"Paul's Journey"

14 Mar 2017
Some journeys are more difficult than others. The central character in this enlightened commercial for Swedish Railways has embarked on a personal journey to seek acceptance for his transvestitism - and he's no generic cipher representing the LGBT community, either. He's Pelle Pia Hedberg, who became a cause célèbre in his native Sweden when his decision to begin dressing as a woman in the workplace provoked a row with his boss.

Bulmers
"Percentages"

Bulmers Ireland show us a scene with a twist in this energetic ad. A pulsing soundtrack accompanies what looks like a house party only the cool kids are invited to, but appearances can be deceiving... Soon the scene is annotated with percentages which make witty observations about what's really going on with the partygoers.

Castrol Edge

'Fast & Furious 8' - or 'The Fate of the Furious' for Stateside readers - partners with Castrol Edge for this action-packed simulation. Stuntwoman Debbie Evans is challenged by series veteran Michelle Rodriguez to evade tanks and Russian submarines on an icy lake - just your regular Sunday afternoon drive, eh? Good to see the stunt driver take top billing for once.
